We Work for the upliftment of the underprivileged and promoting social equality
In the year 1966, Rev. Father Francoise Laborde, a French priest, along with a group of few locals from the localities of Pilkhana in Howrah decided to join together in an endeavor to improve the living conditions and help their fellow men. They formed a committee which would meet thrice a week and be called “permanent committee” for listening to the needs and requirements of the people who lived in Pilkhana.

This committee started meeting regularly and receiving lots of appeal from the slum’s inhabitants, and help was given in a small way. Thus the beginning was indeed very small but an encouraging effort.
In the year 1968, Seva Sangh Samiti was registered under the the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961 bearing Regn No. s/8870(a) of 1967-68. The Samiti was lead by Mr. Dennis Maher, President and Miss Veronica Florian as the first Treasurer along with Secretary Mr. L. Louis and other members.
Seva Sangh Samiti has always tried to enhance the self-esteem of the local inhabitants. It also strives to underline the real values these people cherish in their day to day life – friendship, courage, hospitality, family bonding and fighting the worst.
The main objectives of the Samiti are to look into the following:
- Primary Health Care for the marginalized section of the society.
- Education for all children below the poverty line.
- Upliftment of Living Conditions of poor people through family welfare program.
- To empower women for inclusion in the economic ecosystem of the society.
